Hunting in Greenland – Muskox and Caribou, September 2027
A hunting adventure in the heart of the Arctic – tundra, glacial rivers and fjords north of the Arctic Circle.
Book nowAbout the programme
- Group – 2–3 hunters and 2 companions
- Area – Kangerlussuaq, West Greenland
- Accommodation – river tent camp
Greenland is the largest island in the world and one of the last truly wild territories on the planet. The huge ice sheet, the mountains, the tundra, the glacial rivers and the deep fjords create a unique atmosphere for authentic Arctic hunting.
Kangerlussuaq is in West Greenland, north of the Arctic Circle, at the head of a long fjord. The area is known for its relatively dry climate and for excellent populations of muskox and Greenland caribou. The summer hunting season usually runs from July to October.

Muskox

The muskox is one of the oldest and most characteristic animals of the Arctic. Despite its name, it is a closer relative of wild goats and sheep than of cattle. The animals have a massive build and an exceptionally thick coat. The population in the Kangerlussuaq area descends from animals introduced here in the 1960s and has since developed successfully.
Greenland caribou

The caribou is the North American form of the wild reindeer. In September the males already carry fully developed antlers and are in very good trophy condition. September offers a good combination of cooler weather, enough daylight and active animal movement – and the autumn colours of the tundra.

River camp
The large and well-organised tent camp is located in a river valley in the Kangerlussuaq area and provides the necessary comfort in Arctic conditions:
- Warm, dry and clean tents of sturdy canvas, sleeping tents for two;
- Real beds and space for personal luggage;
- A large kitchen tent and a spacious tent for dining and relaxing;
- Two sanitary tents with toilets and showers;
- Good, plentiful food and a friendly atmosphere.
Transfer to the camp
The group is met at Kangerlussuaq airport. The drive to the river takes about 15 minutes, with the possibility of a short stop at the local supermarket. From there speedboats take the group to the camp – about an hour along the river.
How the hunt is run

The hunt is carried out with motorboats on the river and tracking on foot in the adjoining valleys. The river rises from a large glacier, and the concession extends to the glacier itself in the north and deep into the tundra in the south. Once a suitable trophy animal is spotted, the hunters continue on foot with the local guides over relatively firm terrain with many animal trails. The programme takes into account the participants' physical abilities, the movement of the game and the weather.
Fishing
If the hunt is completed successfully and on time, a full day of fishing in the fjord can be arranged – Arctic char and Atlantic cod.
Weapons and optics
.300 Win. Mag. rifles with Zeiss optics (Sako, Tikka, Mossberg, Steyr Mannlicher, Mauser) can be provided on site. Rental terms, the specific model and the price of ammunition are confirmed in advance.
Climate and equipment

The weather in Kangerlussuaq is drier and more stable than on the coast, but in September cold wind, rain and low night temperatures are possible. We recommend:
- High waterproof trekking boots (not rubber boots) and gaiters;
- Thermal underwear, fleece or wool mid-layers;
- A windproof and waterproof jacket and trousers;
- A warm hat and gloves;
- A daypack, binoculars, sunglasses and sunscreen;
- Personal medication;
- A soft weapon case if you are renting a rifle.
Travel, duration and dates
The trip is organised via Copenhagen – with a direct flight to Kangerlussuaq or via Nuuk with a domestic connection. The recommended duration is 7–8 days, including arrival and departure. The exact period in September 2027 is agreed according to camp availability, the hunting season and quotas, the flight schedule, the number of participants and the chosen package.
Important terms
Before a contract is signed, the prices for the 2027 season, the exact dates, available quotas, the price for companions, the terms for weapon rental and the flight schedule are confirmed. To reserve the dates, an advance payment of €4,000 per hunter by the end of October 2026 is required.
